School

We are students at The Maria Skłodowska-Curie Comprehensive school in Czechowice-Dziedzice.  We are in a class whose leading subjects belong to Humanities. There are also class specialising in Science, national cultures, mathematics class and classes without any majors (general ones). In our school there are about 500 students  aged 16 to 19 and about 40 teachers. A lot of the students live in Czechowice-Dziedzice but there are also many students who come from surrounding villages. In this type of school there are 3 years (3 grades) of students – year 3 is the final one. at the end of the school we write a big exam called matura. It consist of three basic tests : Polish, Maths and foreign language. You can choose another extra subject if you want.

In the past, when our parent were students, this kind of school used to have 4 grades. Our parents went to local schools but some of them also went to The Maria Skłodowska-Curie Comprehensive School.

Our school is not really big. But it's pretty cosy. There are over 15 classrooms,  2 gyms and a library. There's also an I.T. classroom with computers and a club. We have got a little park  outside with trees, grapevine and wooden benches. Nowadays our school is more modern than in the past. Our parents think that the school now gives us more opportunities and it has better equipment. Since Poland joined the European Union, all schools have a great chance to take part in various projects and establish contacts with other countries through various exchanges, which gives students an opportunity to future development. This is what happens at our school.

If we could decide about our school, we would buy new computers, build a nice playing field or court next to the school and renew our classrooms.

We study lots of subjects and we have extra activities such as Maths classes, French classes, English classes, Photography classes and the COMENIUS club. Most of the subject we study are similar  to the subjects learnt in the past. But we have got a few characteristic subjects nowadays. For example,  Economy, Driving Licence class, Defensive Preparation ( it's our favorite subject but just because of the teacher :)). We also learn Polish, Maths, English, French, Biology, Science, Physics, Geography, History, Chemistry or social science (it's something like sociology). We go to school from Monday to Friday and it starts at 7.30 and ends usually between 14.00 (2 p.m.) and 17.00 (5 p.m.). Some of our parents remember that they went to school on Saturdays as well. They also think that the time they spent at their comprehensive school wasn't really useful. However, they appreciate it. Some knowledge was helpful but not all of it. We hope that our studies will be helpful in the future and we won't regret that we were students at our school :)
